Dementia Friendly Communities
Dementia is bigger than an individual diagnoses - it is something that should be addressed at the community level. A dementia-friendly community is a village, town, city or county that is informed, safe and respectful of individuals living with dementia, their families and caregivers, providing supportive options that foster quality of life.
There are six Dementia-Friendly communities in our ten-county area that are recognized by Dementia Friendly America. Being dementia-friendly, these communities are full of organizations, businesses, public servants, and community leaders who are trained to engage with people living with dementia and their caregivers.
We continue to work towards making more communities in our area Dementia-Friendly.
