Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging (WIAAA) is announcing the 2008 inductees for the Gallery of Ageless Achievers. The annual event recognizes seniors in western Illinois who make significant volunteer contributions to their communities.

WIAAA will present certificates to 35 seniors, from the 10 counties in the agency’s service area, on Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Holiday Inn in Moline. The evening will include a buffet dinner, special entertainment and the award ceremony.

"Gallery" celebrates ageless vitality, promotes a positive image of aging, and recognizes older people for making a difference in their communities. The event focuses on the example that winners set through their energy and love of life and shows how communities benefit from the contributions they make.

Gallery members were selected by a special committee. This year’s winners come from a wide variety of volunteer organizations including local senior centers, churches, nursing homes and service organizations. The following pages list the recipients of this year’s awards. Please contact the nominating organization for further information on their winner.

The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging is a non-profit corporation created for the purpose of improving the quality of life for older Americans. The specific objectives of the agency are threefold: to enable older adults to live in their own homes as long as possible with appropriate supportive services; to remove individual and social barriers to economic and personal independence for older persons including the provision of opportunities for employment and volunteer activities; and to act as an advocate for older persons in developing community resources for the aged throughout the ten county area while providing a comprehensive service network. Counties included in the agency’s jurisdiction are Bureau, Henderson, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, McDonough, Mercer, Putnam, Rock Island, and Warren. E .O. E.
