Illinois Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs

Illinois Rx Income Limits Increased - March 26, 2007

Do you need assistance in paying for medications?

The State of Illinois has a pharmaceutical program that may be able to offer you some relief from the high cost of your medications. The program is called Illinois Cares Rx. It is the program which was formed when the Illinois Circuit Breaker and SeniorCare were combined. (In addition, you may be able to receive a rebate on the property taxes or rent that you pay and receive your vehicle license tags for a reduced fee). If you wish to receive assistance through Illinois Cares Rx, you will be required to enroll in a Medicare D Plan. This is a voluntary Medicare prescription drug coverage called Medicare Part D Benefit. To learn more about enrolling in a Medicare D Plan, visit www.medicare.gov. You may also call: 1-800-633-4227 or 1-800-486-2048 (TTY).

This program is available to people with Medicare. Enrollees pay a monthly premium and a share of the drug costs. You will receive maximum benefits from Illinois Cares Rx by enrolling in one of the coordinating Medicare D plans for the Illinois Cares Rx program. These plans can be viewed on the website listed above for Illinois Cares Rx.


If you do not qualify for Illinois Cares Rx

If you feel you may need help in paying for the monthly premiums and a share of the drug costs, there is "Extra Help" available to people with limited resources. To see if you qualify for this assistance, visit : www.socialsecurity.gov. Or call: 1-800-772-1213 or 1-800-325-0778.

Illinois Rx Buying Club is program which offers discounts with average savings of 20% on both brand name and generic medications. To learn more about this program please visit: www.illiniosrxbuyingclub.com or call: 1-866-215-3462 or 1-866-215-3479 (TTY).
