      Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

The Senior Community Service Employment Program, sponsored by the Illinois Department on Aging, is a training program designed to assist the mature worker in re-entering the job market. It operates under a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor under Title V of the Older Americans' Act.

Who is eligible?
  • Age 55 years or older;
  • Unemployed;
  • Capable of performing tasks involved in the proposed community service assignment; and
  • Anyone who has an annual family income of less that 125% of the established federal poverty level.
  • Currently WIAAA serves individuals in Bureau, Henderson, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, McDonough, Mercer, and Warren counties.
How does the Program Work?
Eligible individuals are enrolled, usually for 20 hours a week at minimum wage, in non-profit agencies where they receive:
  • Skill acquisition or skill enhancement opportunities;
  • Personal and employment-related counseling; and
  • Assistance in the transition to unsubsidized employment.

  • Annual Physical exam,
  • Job-related counseling and
  • Paid training experience
