In the year 2000 amendments to the Older Americans Act established for the first time the National Caregiver Support Program. Programs developed include:

Information to family caregivers regarding available services

Assistance to family caregivers in gaining access to services

Respite care
to enable caregivers to be temporarily relieved from their caregiving responsibilities

Supplemental services on a limited basis to complement the care provided by family caregivers

You can access caregiver resources and services through local Caregiver Resource Centers (see Senior Centers) in your county and by contacting Alternatives for the Older Adult.
