Annual Conference
on Aging Issues

Thursday September 13, 2007:

Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging’s Annual Conference for aging network professionals will be held at i wireless Center, formerly The Mark of the Quad Cities, in Moline on September 13, 2007 from 8:00am – 3:30pm. The opening general session speaker is Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, an Occupational Therapist currently serving as a dementia care and dementia education specialist. She has an independent practice and also works part-time for the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is also a Counseling Associate for Duke University’s School of Nursing. Ms. Snow will also present an afternoon workshop titled, "Caring at the End of the Journey" on how to adjust and adapt to caregiving near the end of life.

A selection of workshops on aging topics including an aging sensitivity workshop, exploring personal styles in communication, ethical dilemmas in social work and seniors and the internet. Illinois CEU’s will be available for nursing home administrators and social workers. Iowa CEU’s will be available for nurses, nursing home administrators and social workers. The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging is a non-profit corporation created for the purpose of improving the quality of life for older Americans. The specific objectives of the agency are threefold: to enable older adults to live in their own homes as long as possible with appropriate supportive services; to remove individual and social barriers to economic and personal independence for older persons including the provision of opportunities for employment and volunteer activities; and to act as an advocate for older persons in developing community resources for the aged throughout the ten county area while providing a comprehensive service network. Counties included in the agency’s jurisdiction are Bureau, Henderson, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, McDonough, Mercer, Putnam, Rock Island, and Warren. E.O.E.

The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging is a planning and funding agency for senior programs in Western Illinois. We have sponsored training conferences for over 20+ years to countless workers in the field of aging. Through these conferences, we have provided a learning experience for staff of our funded provider agencies, as well as other workers in the field of aging, to remain up-to-date on developments that affect the older population.
