Approximately 200
aging network professionals and 20 seniors attended Western Illinois
Area Agency on Aging's Annual Conference held September 14, 2006 at
The Mark of the Quad Cities.
The conference opened with a welcome
from Barbara Eskildsen, Assistant Director of Western Illinois Area Agency
on Aging.
The opening
speaker was Dr. Sara Sanders, Assistant Professor of the University of
Iowa's School of Social Work. Dr. Sanders presented on "Finding
the Silver Lining in Caregiving". Her presentation
examined the types of personal growth and development that caregivers
can encounter. The goal was to help professionals assist
caregivers in locating the "silver Lining". .
Participants
could choose from 12 breakout sessions on a variety of topics such as
"Normal and Abnormal Aging", Effective Coordination for
Disaster Planning, Environmental safety, Domestic Violence and
Fundraising. The Mark was filled with a variety of displays from
different vendors that participants could enjoy over breaks.
