Approximately 200 aging network professionals and 53
seniors attended Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging’s 2004 Annual
Conference held September 23, 2004 at The Mark of the Quad Cities. The
conference opened with a welcome from Greta Brooks, Executive Director
of Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging.

Among the day’s highlights was Sara Sanders from
University of Iowa, faculty member of the School of Social Work, who
presented the opening session on "Caregivers Across the
Generations". This session gave an overview of male caregivers.
Dr. Nicholas Shammas, founder and president of Midwest Cardiovascular
Research Foundation presented on "Fighting Heart and Blood Vessel
Disease…and Winning". Each participant of the conference also
received a copy of Dr. Shammas’ book Learn About Your Heart. . .

Participants could choose between twelve breakout
sessions on a variety of subjects. 53 seniors joined our afternoon
sessions "Workshops At The Mark". The halls were lined with
vendor displays for the participants to enjoy between sessions. Some
comments made by participants: "excellent key note speaker",
"always enjoy coming to this conference", "good variety
of sessions" and "great vendor displays.
